In the second chapter of his second letter, Peter releases a blistering attack on false teachers.  We know that false doctrine is poisonous. We know that true doctrine is the only antidote.   In the Small Catechism Luther was accustomed to ask:  Where is this written?”  He then set down the Bible passages where a given doctrine or teaching was found.  By way of review and for your personal Bible study at home, here are some of the main teachings of the Bible along with some of the main passages where these teachings are found.

The one, true God is the Triune God – one God in three Persons

Deuteronomy 6:4;  Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew 28:19;  2 Corinthians 13:15

The Scriptures are the verbally inspired and inerrant Word of God

John 10:35;  2 Timothy 3:15-17;  2 Peter 1:21

The Law shows us our sin and the Gospel shows us our Savior

John 1:17;  John 3:16; Romans 3:21-24;  Romans 6:23

God created all things in six normal days and rested on the seventh day

Since Adam and Eve fell into sin, all people are born sinful

Our Savior Jesus Christ is true God and true Man in one Person

Jesus Christ lived, suffered, died and rose bodily to save us

Isaiah 53;  Matthew 20:28;  John 3:14-18; Rom. 4:25; 5:18-19; 1 Cor. 15:1-4

God has justified (declared not guilty) all people for the sake of Christ

John 1:29;  John 3:16; Romans 5:18;  2 Corinthians 5:18-19

This justification or forgiveness only becomes ours personally by faith

The Holy Spirit gives us this faith through the Gospel (Means of Grace)

Through this Gospel in Baptism, the Holy Spirit begins and sustains faith

Through this Gospel in Holy Communion,

Christ extends His forgiveness in a personal way through His body & blood

Matthew 26:26-28;   1 Corinthians 10:14-22;  11:17-34

Faith in Christ naturally produces a life of good works and prayer

Matthew 7:7-8;  John 15:5; James 2:17;  Galatians 5:22-25

Amid changes In society, God’s Moral Will does not change
