John 17:1-11a – “They Have Held on to Your Word.”

John 17:1-11a – “They Have Held on to Your Word.”

WELCOME TO WORSHIP
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Paul’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray that your soul will be strengthened by the good news of God’s forgiveness through Jesus.

PRAYER IN PREPARATION FOR TODAY’S WORSHIP
Lord of Glory, I face many difficulties and obstacles in this life. I often let my guard down and put my faith at risk instead of focusing on you. Show me your glory in your Word and the promises you’ve fulfilled. Fill me with appreciation of your sacrifice on my behalf and with an eager expectation of the eternal joy awaiting me thanks to you. In your name I pray. Amen.

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

BLESSINGS TO THE CONFIRMANDS

Today we celebrate the instruction of the eighth-grade confirmands in the truths of God’s Word. May the Lord help them be faithful to the promises they make today, and may he continue to bless their fellowship in our church family.

AMMO CAN FUNDRAISER FOR LMSG

Lutheran Military Support Group (LMSG) is a non-profit organization providing Christ-centered support to WELS/ELS military service members, veterans, and their families. This whole month of May we look to support their ministry to Christian soldiers. An ammo can has been placed in the narthex through Memorial Day where you can place your freewill offering. Your offering will go to support the LMSG-sponsored retreats and workshops, scholarships and grants, and the production of the Christian Service Members’ Handbook. Find out more about LMSG at lutheranmilitary.org.

ASCENSION & GRADUATION SERVICE

Join us as we celebrate the truths of the ascension of our Lord on Thursday, May 21st, at 7:00 pm. The service will also serve as our graduation service and we’ll thank the Lord for another school year completed in his grace.

YARD SIGNS!

It is that time of year to dig out your St. Paul’s Lutheran School yard signs to help promote enrollment at our school. If you are in need of a yard sign, they are located in the church narthex.

CHURCH AND SCHOOL PICNIC

Join us for St. Paul’s Church and School Picnic scheduled for May 24th at 11:15 am. We will be celebrating our country’s 250th anniversary as part of the picnic theme. Bring a side dish and a chair if the weather looks good too. God bless our country and our fellowship!

THE DEVIL DOESN’T TAKE A SUMMER BREAK

As we get ready to take our break from formal Bible studies for the summer, we recognize that the devil still attacks our faith and living. If you would like devotional or Bible study materials to continue to grow and be strengthened during the summer months, please contact Pastor Groth (pastor@stpaulsbangor.com). Studies will resume after Labor Day.

MONDAY WORSHIP

Monday worship begins for the summer on June 1st at 7:00 pm. It will continue until August 31st (the Monday before Labor Day).

FUNERAL COMMITTEE DIRECTOR

St. Paul’s is in need of a Funeral Committee Director. There is a group of very experienced ladies that have been volunteering their time and will continue to do so. Since Liz Michaels passed, Diane Arndt has been heading the committee. It is all working very smoothly. Diane and the other ladies are willing to help one hundred percent. We just need another Director. If you are willing to help out, call Diane Arndt at 608-343-1282.

FUNERAL USHERS

There is a monthly rotation of names of men who serve as ushers at funerals, and we could use a couple more volunteers for the list. If you are willing and able to serve, please contact Paul Wittmershaus at 608-317-0585.

SUMMER BIBLE INFORMATION CLASS

We will be having another Bible Information Class this summer. This would be the class for refreshing yourself on the foundational truths of Scripture and for those who would like to become members of St. Paul’s. If you or someone you know would be interested, please email Pastor Groth at pastor@stpaulsbangor.com as he will soon begin to communicate with attendees to find the best day and time for the class.
