BIBLE TRANSLATION UPDATE – As many of you already know, the 1984 edition of the New International Version (NIV) which we have used for so many years is no longer available in retail stores such as Barnes & Noble, Walmart, etc. We do have a limited number of copies available for purchase through our school, especially for our confirmation students for the next couple of years. You may also call Northwestern Publishing House 1-800-662-6022. They have a few left in stock. Make sure you clarify that you are looking for the 1984 version. Please be advised that virtually any copy of the NIV that you purchase in a regular store will be the 2011 edition which contains significant changes. Our Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod has not yet decided whether we will use this NIV 2011 in our synod publications. Of course, the synod does not mandate what translation of the Bible individual congregations must use. But the synod must decide what version will be regularly used in its catechism, school materials, Bible study materials, etc. All the delegates at the District Conventions will weigh in this summer with a vote which should tell us what direction we plan to take. Look for further updates, but again, please note that we are not currently using the NIV 2011. Check the copyright date on any copy of the NIV which you may purchase in the future.
