EDUCATION COMMITTEE & CHURCH COUNCIL NOTES FROM JULY 1
Quarterly Voters Meeting will be Monday, July 22, 8:30 p.m. downstairs. Council granted Mr. Kurt Nielsen a peaceful release from his Call here at St. Paul’s as he has now left to assume his new Call at Zion in Monroe, MI. Installation of Mrs. Beth Schmeling and Mr. Justin Wiechmann will take place on Sunday, August 11 with a welcome downstairs between services. The 125th Anniversary of our congregation will be observed in connection with NEXT year’s Harvest-Mission Festival – on Sun., Sept. 28, 2014. Pastor Steve Olson, son of the late Oscar & Lil Olson and ‘son’ of our congregation, will preach for this special anniversary
service. Pastor Olson currently serves as pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Martinez, Georgia. Preacher for THIS year’s Harvest-Mission Festival on Sept. 22 will be Seminarian Darin Warnecke who has recently returned from our Friends of China program. Stewardship-Evangelism Chairman Dan Kinstler is coordinating volunteers from our congregation for the WELS Fair Booth. Those who wish to help out may contact Dan. Synod Convention is July 29 – August 1 at MLC in New Ulm. Stay tuned for an update on the Bible translation issue. Along with many other congregations in our area, the voters of St. Paul’s have indicated that we are NOT in favor of making NIV 11 the official choice for general use in our publications. Recognizing the issues that exist with NIV 11, WELS President Schroeder is encouraging the undertaking of our own Confessional Lutheran translation in the future. This possibility will also be considered by the delegates. Serious structural issues in our school building were discussed. Considerable discussion centered around the eventual construction of a new school building. Education Committee and Church Council plans to provide various pros & cons for congregational consideration in the future.
