Romans 8:12-17 – I Believe in God…

WELCOME TO WORSHIP
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Paul’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray that your soul will be strengthened by the good news of God’s forgiveness through Jesus.

PRAYER IN PREPARATION FOR TODAY’S WORSHIP
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, though I cannot understand the teaching fully with my feeble human brain, I praise you today for the surpassing comfort the doctrine of the Trinity brings to my heart. Help me grow in knowledge today of your work for me as the only true, holy God, especially your work through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Build me up with your abiding love. In Jesus, my Mediator, I pray. Amen.

CHURCH AND SCHOOL PICNIC

Our church and school picnic is today following the second service. It will be held at the revamped school grounds so the congregation can enjoy the new blessings we have at the school. Join us for food and games and good fellowship and fun.

VICTORY SERVICE FOR BETTY KROENER

Our sister in the faith, Betty Kroener, passed away this past week. We will celebrate the work of Christ in her life with a service on Wednesday, May 29, at 11:00 am, at Fredrickson Funeral Home in Bangor. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am before the service, also at the funeral home. Join us as we remember what the Lamb of God did for Betty.

DIVINE CALL EXTENDED

On Monday night our council extended a divine call on behalf of the congregation to Ms. Theckla Cortez to serve as our school’s grades 1-2 teacher beginning this next school year. Please keep her in your prayers as she considers this call to serve the Lord at St. Paul’s.

Our school will be holding another Redwing Basketball Camp open to all upcoming 3rd-8th graders June 4-7 from 9:00-11:45 am each day. The cost is $25, which includes a t-shirt for the camp. Please bring water bottles and a clean pair of gym shoes for the gym. The deadline to sign up is Thursday, May 30.

LOGGERS NIGHT

Luther High is hosting a WELS Night fundraiser with the La Crosse Loggers on Saturday, June 20. Gates open at 5:30 pm and game time is 6:35 pm. Tickets are $12 (with $6 going back to Luther) or $18 (with $9 going back to Luther and includes a Loggers hat). Tickets can be purchased online with promo code: WELS. See the poster on the bulletin board in the lobby for more info.

ST. PAUL’S LIBRARY WISH LIST

We have new beautiful cabinets installed in the basement. The plan for the upper cabinets is to develop a bigger church library for members to utilize. A library wish list has been compiled of books and series that would provide a great blessing to the congregation as we seek to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord, his work in the world, the history of salvation and church history, how to interact with people of other religions and evaluate the teachings of other Christian denominations, and more. If you would like to donate money toward the purchase of new books for our library, you can find copies of the wish list printed in the narthex. You can submit gifts via the offering plate with “library” in the memo line, and if you’d like a specific book or series purchased then please send a note to Pastor Groth.

NICENE CREED CHANGE

Have you noticed that the new hymnal included a change to the Nicene Creed that we’ve gotten used to speaking the last 25+ years? Have you wondered why the wording was changed? In the narthex you can find copies of a document from the WELS hymnal committee that explains the reasoning for the change.
